It took a Texan to spot an old Denny soldier when we published this photograph from World War One in our August 7 edition.
In the picture stands Private James Spackman of the 8th R H, 9th Division Black Watch along with fellow soldiers when they returned from war in 1918.
We knew he was in the photo but did not know where until his grandson, also James Spackman, called in to tell us he is the man on the far right, top row.
Mr Spackman, originally from Denny, has lived in Texas, USA for the last 40 years and just happened to be visiting the area at the moment when he saw the photograph.
He said: “His call-up papers say he joined in early 1915 and went to France before Thessaloniki and then back to France.
“He passed away in 1987. His father owned one of the first bus services in Central Scotland which was sold to Alexander’s.”
