In response to our feature on memories of cinemas in the Falkirk area last week, Carolynn McMnn from Larbert e-mailed in with a fascinating account when her father worked in the Bank Street pictures.
Alexander Allardyce, now 84, was chief projectionist there for more than a decade and Carolyn’s late uncle, Charles Nicol, was also a head projectionist at the ABC.
Carolyn said: “One instanceof his stories is of how sometimes, minutes before a showing of maybe a John Wayne movie, he was running to Grahamston railway station to pick up the film reel hot from another cinema in perhaps Aberdeen and running back just in time to set the film reel in the projector. Happy memories for him.
“He he was always very proud about his time in the cinemas.”
