One of our readers believes he can shed some light on this illuminating image of men working in a local
foundry from The Falkirk Herald archives.

The photo was published on June 18 by Jean Jamieson from Falkirk Archives – which cares for our photographic collection – and has it catalogued as an unidentified foundry with a date of some time in the 1950s.

Jim Hendry from Kirkcaldy, who used to live in Stenhousemuir and Bainsford, called to say he reckoned it was the R&A Mains Gothic Works which was opposite the Mariner pub in Glasgow Road, Camelon.

He also said the man second on the right is Frank Smith from Stenhousemuir.

Jim said: “It was a hard shift in the foundries, especially for the moulders.”
