The Carron Company took the name of Falkirk around the world. One of the town’s best known establishments it was one of the world leaders during the industrial revolution.
A recent article on it by historian Ian Scott reminded John Thomson from Bo’ness that the products stand the test of time.
He said: “Ian Scott’s recent article about Carron Company reminded me of the journey I take each day to work.
“I walk past ornamental lamp standards at either end of Great Stuart Street in Edinburgh. These had been removed a year or so ago during road alterations and were recently reinstated after refurbishment.
“By chance I noticed the plate at the foot of each standard had on them the words ‘Carron Company Carron Stirlingshire’.
“Just another example of how the famous name of Carron Company remains in view in the most unexpected of settings.”
