Maddiston historian David Leask has sent in some fascinating facts about New Park Farm in the Muiravonside estate.

The photo above came from James Weightman, whose grandfather was the coachman for the Stirling family which owned the estate.

The old house was where the last of the MacLeods of Muiravonside ended up and the estate was inherited by a niece of the famous ‘Culkito’, aide-de-camp to Bonnie Prince Charlie. Her husband was a spendthrift and when the money was gone the family moved into Newpark and let out the Mansion House.

The estate was eventually sold and was in the hands of the Stirling family until the 1970s when part of the estate was bought by Falkirk District Council to become Muiravonside Country Park. The buildings survive to this day as the Home Farm where children are able to visit the farm’s animals.
