James Sharp from Shieldhill is remembering an old friend who was well known in the Braes village for fixing people’s cars at his garage.
James, who is a transport enthusiast who used to own a removals firm, sent in this picture of the Cross Garage in Main Street which villagers may remember.
It was owned by William Deans, or Bill as he was better known, who passed away on August 1, 2011, one year short of his 100th birthday.
James said: “The garage is long gone and a house is built on the ground. Bill had a very varied career and was in the Army for a time, but also worked as a gamekeeper, for the Carron Company, at the tar works and at Steins Brickworks, Whitecross.
“While working at the tar works he started up his business in the evenings working from Anderson’s Buildings.”
