Families always have special memories and Anne Mitchell from Middlesex only has happy ones when she stayed in the Maddiston area as a child.

Anne, now 77, lived in ‘the blocks’, two sets of houses on the road between Rumford and Maddiston, built by the Carron Company and called Carronview built in 1910 and 1924 for miners, which Anne’s dad was.

The picture above was taken circa 1944-46 and features a few members of Anne’s family including her aunt Sally and cousins Annie and Peter Heeps. Annie sadly died aged 25.

Anne moved away from the area to England when she was 20 with husband Eric, but has never forgotten her roots.

She said: “Everyone knew my aunt Sal and uncle Jake. They were great singers at parties and family occasions. I had other family living in the blocks and I remember just playing all day long.”
