THE COUPLE: Katie (30) is a reference team leader at Job Centre Plus in Falkirk. Kevin (31) is a fire prevention engineer. The couple now live in Alloa Road, Stenhousemuir.
HOW THEY MET: Kevin is a mate of Katie’s big brother Richard. She got to know him after tagging along on a night out when she was 18. They kept their friendship secret for a month.
THE PROPOSAL: An ‘item’ more or less from day one, on Christmas Eve 2006 - after she finally got home from work - Kevin prepared a romantic dinner with candles and rose petals and popped the question.
THE WEDDING: The happy couple booked the Beancross Restaurant on April 19 for the ceremony and reception attended by 80 guests. That evening another 120 friends and family joined them to celebrate the occasion. Katie said: “It was a beautiful day, full of memorable moments.”
THE WEDDING PARTY: Kevin’s best friend Stephen McCudden was best man and Katie’s best friend Stephanie Zak, her sister-in-law Jenny Johnstone and ‘wee sisters’ Leah and Keira Merrilees the bridesmaids. The flower girls were her nieces, Jessica Johnstone (1) and Grace Russell (5). Her brother Richard and nephews Ewan (16) and Ross (10) MacMillan were ushers and Katie and Kevin’s son, Leo (3), the page boy.
THE DRESS: Katie opted for a strapless ‘mermaid style’ gown in ivory with detailed stitching and diamante bodice. She said: “It was exactly what I hoped it would be. I felt wonderful.”
THE HONEYMOON: A week away with Leo at Center Parcs. The ‘proper’ honeymoon will be to Spain in August.
THANKS: Special thanks to Kevin’s parents Christine and Brian, Katie’s mum Anne-Marie, her dad, John and his partner Lisa and all family and friends who made the day so special.
