The wedding of Laurie McGarva and Paul Ratcliffe
HOW THEY MET: She was on a holiday with the girls in Ibiza in September, 2008 and he was there with his mates. Outside the hotel Laurie asked Paul to take her picture, that led to a party which led to them becoming a couple.
THE PROPOSAL: During a fabulous tour of America last June they took a helicopter trip over the Grand Canyon. Later they were enjoying a walk when Paul got down on one knee. Laurie says: “It probably took me less than a second to say yes.”
THE WEDDING: The happy couple booked the Airth Castle Hotel for 110 guests. They all enjoyed a party on the Saturday and the wedding ceremony on Sunday, July 27.
THE WEDDING PARTY: Paul’s best man was his best friend Dan Smith, Laurie’s maid of honour was her best friend Loryn Forbes. Jacq Galbraith and Corinna Cahill were bridesmaids, Matt Bibby and Adam Cobley groomsmen and Laurie’s brother Ross the ring bearer.
THE DRESS: Laurie had searched all the best shops in London looking for the perfect dress – then found it at Olivia Cameron Bridal in Laurieston. The classic full-length strapless outfit in ivory came with boxed pleats, cathedral length veil and jewelled waistband.
THE HONEYMOON: A week at Richard Branson’s private game reserve in South Africa followed by a week in Mauritius.
THANKS: Their parents Jane and John McGarva and Karon and Dave Ratcliffe and all the couple’s friends who travelled from far and wide to make it such a special day for them.
