The birth of Sophie Buchanan
THE PARENTS: Mum Elaine Scott is 26 and a customer services adviser, and dad Gary Buchanan is 27 and a scales technician in Larbert. Sophie is the couple’s first baby and the family lives in Stenhousemuir.
THE PREGNANCY: Elaine had morning sickness for five months, but aside from that small issue, everything went smoothly.
THE BIRTH: Baby Buchanan was two weeks early and arrived very quickly. She was delivered by Caesarean section after six hours of labour as she was in the breech position. However mum and dad were able to take baby Sophie home a few days later - on what just happened to be Mothering Sunday.
THE BABY: Sophie is doing really well. She sleeps well and eats well. She loves getting cuddles and likes to be told she’s gorgeous.
THE NAME: Elaine had picked out a name but asked Gary to think about one. He suggested Sophie only a short time before the baby was born, and that was the one that stuck. Anne is after Elaine’s late mum.
THE GRANDPARENTS: Sophie is a second grandchild for Allan Scott of Polmont, chief reporter at The Falkirk Herald’s sister paper The Linlithgow Gazette, and a second for Davy and Ann Buchanan of Camelon.
THANKS: Special thanks go to the staff at the maternity ward, and also to Elaine’s sister Laura Forsyth who was her second birthing partner.
