The birth of Joe David Swinney

THE DETAILS: Joe David Swinney was born at 1.12 p.m. on December 2, 2013, at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, weighing 8lb 6oz.

THE PARENTS: Mum Roslyn Winchester (24) is a customer advisor with Falkirk Council and from Falkirk. Dad Paul Swinney (25) is a labourer from Grangemouth. The family lives in Camelon.

THE PREGNANCY: Roslyn had a relatively straightforward pregnancy apart from suffering from morning sickness for the entire nine months. She said: “I just got used to feeling sick all the time.”

THE BIRTH: Roslyn went to hospital five days before her due date with what she thought was false labour but discovered she was already in established labour. Just four-and-a-half hours later, baby Joe was born. Roslyn said: “You hear about first labours being very long and drawn out but mine was very quick. I was obviously delighted.”

THE BABY: Joe is a very happy and content little baby, but is suffering from colic just now so giving his parents sleepless nights.

THE NAME: The couple knew they were going to call their baby Joe from early in the pregnancy.

THE GRANDPARENTS: Joe is a first grandchild for Pauline Winchester of Letham and David Winchester of Ireland and the second grandchild of Robert and Lorraine Swinney of Grangemouth.

THANKS: Thanks to the maternity team at Forth Valley Royal and to the grandparents, in particular Pauline for being there during the birth.
