The birth of Jessica Elizabeth Smith

THE DETAILS: Jessica Elizabeth Smith was born on September 5, 2013 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital at 7.20 a.m. weighing 7lb 12oz.

THE PARENTS: Mum Jacqueline Smith (34) is a teacher in Livingston, and dad Alan Smith is a procurement manager who is based in Grangemouth. Jessica is the couple’s
fourth child and the family live in Rumford.

THE PREGNANCY: Jacqueline said that the pregnancy didn’t get off to a great start as she had really bad morning sickness which lasted for several months. This came as a bit of a surprise as Jacqueline hadn’t been ill during her past three pregnancies.

THE BIRTH: Baby Smith was a week late. After the labour started, Jacqueline got to the hospital nice and early but spent a good bit of time in the waiting room, before a straight-forward birth.

THE BABY: Jessica is a fantastic baby. She sleeps well and enjoys her feeds. She loves keeping an eye on her big sisters – Kayah (6), Lucy (5), and Sophia (3) – and enjoys having raspberries blown in her face.

THE NAME: The couple really liked the name ‘Jessica’ and Alan also liked the name ‘Elizabeth’.

THE GRANDPARENTS: Jessica is a tenth grandchild for John and Margo McAteer of Polmont, a seventh for Jane and Gordon Lee of Polmont and a seventh for David and Margaret Smith of Wallacestone.

THANKS: Thanks go to the maternity staff at Forth Valley Royal and to the couple’s family and friends for all their support.
