The most hotly anticipated family film of the year hits cinemas next month.

‘Brave’ from the Disney Pixar studio is an animated tale about Merida (voiced by Kelly MacDonald), a Scottish princess and skilled archer who causes havoc in her family when she goes to a witch for help.

The film is expected to be a huge boost to Scottish tourism and topped the box office in the US when it was released last month.

The Hippodrome cinema in Bo’ness is screening the film from its release date on Friday, August 3, and to celebrate they have invited local medieval re-enactment group Clanranald Trust to the first screening. The organisation dedicated to bringing Scottish history to life will be mingling with the crowds before the Bo’ness premier and showing off their sword fighting skills.

To book tickets to the opening screening of ‘Brave’ with Clanranald, or for any other showing in the two-week run, visit The Steeple Box Office in Falkirk High Street or call (01324) 506850.

The Clanranald Trust is holding an open day on July 28-29 at their fortified medieval village, DunCarron, in the Carron Valley.

Visitors can look around the kitchens, armoury and blacksmiths workshop to get a feel of life in Scotland during the 12th century.

Adults and kids can have a go at archery and members of the Trust will be on site and in costume to talk about life in medieval times.

Entry costs £2 and all proceeds will go to building a food and drink stall at the site. Visit www.clanranald.org for further information.
