Sky’s the limit for Carron’s Ciara

Ciara is heading to the Big Apple to study drama

A teenager is swapping the mean streets of Falkirk for the bright lights of the Big Apple.

Ciara Wright has been accepted to a prestigious drama school in New York and will be packing her bags and moving Stateside next year.

The Carron student has been honing her talent at the UK Theatre School in Glasgow for five years and is about to start a NC in acting and performance at Langside College before moving to NYC next September.

Ciara, who has just left Larbert High School, auditioned for the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts last summer when they recruited for students during the Edinburgh Festival.

The 17-year-old said: “I spotted an open audition for the school and thought I’d apply since I had nothing to lose. That was way back in August and although I got a few e-mails from them, I thought I hadn’t been successful but I was eventually told in May that I have a place.

“I just can’t believe it - I’ve never even been to New York before so can’t imagine how amazing it will be to live there.”

Ciara, who lives with mum Mhairi, sister Jennifer (21) and Marc (13), has postponed starting at the college until next year to give her time to save and fundraise to go. With New York City having among the highest living costs in the world and the course costing thousands of dollars, she needs to work hard to get the funds together.

She continued: “It will be a challenge to get all the money together but it’s going to worth it. Famous actors like Matthew Fox attended the school and members of the ‘Glee’ cast. I’ve been thinking up fundraisers and the local community have been great at coming up with ideas too. I’ve got a year so I’m confident I’ll be able to do it.

“The staff at the college have been so helpful so far and once you start they help you arrange auditions and castings to help get work.

“I’m so excited, it’s going to be amazing. My mum is delighted I got in but she is worried too. New York is far away from Carron but it’s too good an opportunity to pass up.”
