Silents are golden

Silent film stars will be making a big noise at the Hippodrome next month.

The popular Bo’ness venue will be hosting its third annual Festival of Silent Cinema from Wednesday, March 13, to Sunday, March 17.

Hippodrome producer Shona Thomson said: “The Festival is fast becoming one of the key events in the UK film festival calendar.

“It offers a special cinema experience of watching classic and rare movies accompanied live by international acclaimed musicians performing in our beautifully refurbished picture palace.

“And after the success of the first two festivals we’ve extended this year’s event from three to five days to fit as many screenings in as possible.”

The last two festivals have seen the Hippodrome hold a variety of workshops and screen films starring true cinematic legends like Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Laurel and

Hardy and screen goddess Clara Bow – the original ‘It Girl’.

This year’s programme will take the entertainment on offer to a new level – once again combining the thrills and spills of silent cinema with the live soundtrack produced on the spot by top musicians.

Tickets are now on sale.
