The countdown to 2012 is under way with only just over two weeks until Hogmanay.
December 31 gives the perfect excuse to get dressed up and bring in the New Year with a bang but the biggest party night of the year also raises the question of what to do.
House parties are an eternally popular way to celebrate but if you fancy going out there is a host of great party nights and events in Falkirk and beyond to make Hogmanay 2011 a memorable one.
Falkirk Steeple Hogmanay party may be a distant memory but neighbouring Stirling is hosting a street party with a difference at Stirling Castle. Acts including the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Eddi Reader and the Heart of Scotland Choir will entertain revellers with a spectacular fireworks display bringing the night to a close. Tickets cost £20 (£16), call 01786 27 4000 to book.
For a less weather-dependent night, Behind the Wall in Melville Street is hosting a Hogmanay party indoors with music from Grand Central and a four course meal. Tickets cost £19.95 including dinner and are available by visiting the bar or calling (01324) 633338.
Music lovers are well catered for in Falkirk with Twenty Rocks folk act The Urban Tonkers reforming for a special gig. The eleven-piece band features harmonicas, fiddles and a tin whistle the boys mix it. They can be playing ‘Donald Where’s Your Troosers’ one minute and the latest chart topper the next.
Glasgow have cancelled their traditional street party in George Square but Edinburgh continues to thrive if you fancy venturing through to the capital.
Tickets for the enclosure to see Primal Scream play ‘Screamadelica’ have sold out but there are still tickets for the street party priced at £15 and the Keilidh Ceilidh priced £35.
Whatever you end up doing for Hogmanay, wrap up warm, book a taxi well in advance, have fun and try not to overindulge in alcohol.
