Despite this house being in a quiet, residential area, you don’t need to go too far to get to the big cities or the local eclectic town centre.
‘Romar’, which is situated just off Quarry Brae in Brightons and five minutes from the train station, is a bright, four-bedroom detached bungalow with a large family lounge and open plan kitchen/diner.
Built by the current owners Robert and Marie MacDonald, it was designed to be a family-friendly home and, after a 20-year test run, it’s passed with flying colours.
Mrs MacDonald said: “We built the house in 1992 after we bought the plot from the Clark & Watson dentist.
“I’m from Grangemouth and we had built our first house in Shieldhill so it was a perfect site.”
With three young children at the time, the couple were looking to build a four-bedroom house that was comfortable and practical.
It also benefits from plenty of natural light and lots of room thanks to being one-and-a-half storeys, and has an outdoor area that’s easy to maintain.
A nice plus is the spacious living areas, featuring a long entrance hall, large lounge and open kitchen/diner.
Marie said: “We didn’t like the thought of a separate dining room.
“When you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, it’s nice to be able to just eat in that room too.
“It’s been great as a family home, but we’re looking to downsize now as it’s just the two of us here.
“However, we’re definitely planning to build our own house again.”
