A bridge leading home to Larbert

This stunning five-bedroomed house beside Larbert’s famous railway viaduct has a few surprises up its sleeve.

The first is its cleverly designed entrance, which takes you over a feature bridge into the house, which was built just last year.

Owner Vincent McGuire, who project managed the build working with local architect firm, ILG Design, thinks this is one of the features that really sets this fabulous property apart.

“Because the land – where the old Munnoch’s factory used to be – was on two different levels, we had to create a bridge to lead to the front door but I think it looks really great,” said Vincent.

The unusual entrance leads to the middle section of this three-storey house and a spacious living room with another unusual detail – a balcony that has views over Falkirk Carmuirs golf course.

On this level you’ll also find a large, ultra-modern fitted kitchen with room for dining as well as a double bedroom with en-suite facilities.

Vincent, who moved in last August, loves the open plan feel to this part of the house and how it is so bright and airy.

“It’s a very spacious house and because of the big patio doors and the balcony and the use of glass, it’s full of light.”

On the lower level, a utility room leads to the large integrated garage and there is also a double bedroom with en-suite and a family room which could easily be an additional bedroom.

The top level provides a further three bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, and a family bathroom.

“I really like the two dormer bedrooms – I like the look of them, they’ve turned out really well!” he said.

As each level has at least one bedroom, Vincent believes the house offers tremendous flexibility for its next owners.

“It would also make an excellent home for a big family but it would also work for someone running a business from home, or someone with and elderly relative.”

On one end of the house, the design has incorporated a glass wall running from floor to ceiling, which allows light to flood in.

Another large area of the exterior is clad in Siberian larch, giving it a hard-wearing but attractive and contemporary finish.

A project manager in IT to trade, Vincent is understandably proud of the results of his first foray into the building business and now putting the finishing touches to his second effort – right next door.
