The birth of Mason Niven
THE DETAILS: Mason John Hendry Niven was born in Stirling Royal Infirmary on September 13 at 12.44 a.m. weighing 4lb 12oz.

THE PARENTS: Allison Niven (34), nee Caskie, is a team manager for a sales company and is from Falkirk. John Niven (35) is a mechanical engineer for Ineos and is from Grangemouth. The couple live in Grangemouth

THE PREGNANCY: Allison said that she loved being pregnant and had no problems at all.

THE BIRTH: Mason was born five weeks early after Allison was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. She had to have a crash section and Mason was born 13 minutes later.

THE BABY: "He's fantastic. He's a wee star. He's getting a personality now and he's always gabbing away, no shutting him up – just like his mum his dad says."

THE NAME: Mason was chosen because both Allison and John liked it. Allison said: "We didn't really know anyone with that name but he really suits it."

THE GRANDPARENTS: Mason is second grandson to Moira and Alan Anderson and third grandchild to Roberta and Jack Niven. Both grandparents live in Grangemouth.

THANKS: A special thanks to all the staff at Stirling Royal Infirmary, especially Jennifer Flynn in the Labour suite and everybody who gave the couple gifts and cards. Allison would also like to thank the grandparents and her husband for all their support through and after the pregnancy.
