Laurieston Old People’s Welfare Association

Mobility problems can often hinder taking part in activities and as friends pass on having some company can be more difficult.

These are issues many older people face, but there are local groups committed to ensuring the older generation can still be active and enjoy being sociable with people in similar positions.

One such is Laurieston Old People’s Welfare Association which has been providing a lifeline to local residents for more than 50 years.

The charity’s dedicated volunteers and committee organise a host of events, activities and trips to keep its members entertained in their twilight years.

Activities include fundraising, concerts, visits and talks from schoolchildren to police and fire officers, trips to the theatre and a weekly coffee morning where members go to have a blether with friends.

Chairperson Maragaret Paton said the door is open to anyone who wants to go along and the group is always looking for new members and volunteers.
