Grangemouth Children’s Day arches defy weather

Paige McGinlay and her arch

Paige McGinlay and her arch

The conditions may not have been kind to Grangemouth’s arches, but the comments from hardy bands of “arch watch” veterans certainly were.

Bowhouse Primary School parents, friends and relatives pulled out all the stops to ensure the youngsters of this year’s royal entourage had the best and most imaginative designs possible.

Here is a run down of what people have been working hard to build in their front gardens throughout June 2012:

Emma Reddie (Queen) - Land of massive cupcakes that looked good enough to eat, especially the flowerpot-sized creations.

Zoe Milne (Maid of Honour) - People really could meet the muppets at Zoe’s house - which was converted into the Muppet Show’s famous stage backdrop complete with Kermit, Piggy and the gang from the recent Muppet movie.

Hanna Parsons (Maid of Honour) - Music street with its own box office and a young rock guitar duo belting out Guns and Roses’ classics.

Mason Conner (Page boy) - Super Mario fan Mason had his very own castle filled with computer game characters.

Mitchell Martin (Page boy) - Just across the road from Grangemouth stadium, Mitchell’s Olympics garden featured it’s own running track.

Paige McGinlay (Flower girl) - Disney princesses were the order of the day for Paige.

Matthew Gearon (Herald) - Batman fan Matthew had the caped crusader, a replica of Gotham City Hall, batmobile and a horde of villains like The Joker and The Penguin in his front garden.

Ross Laird (Courtier) - Springfield comes to Grangemouth, with doughnuts aplenty, Homer and the rest of the Simpson Clan.

Jenna Black (Lady in Waiting) - Moshi Monster mash up featured the stars “Dustbin Beaver”, “Banana Montana”, “Lady Goo Goo” and “Broccoli Spears”

Brooke Burnett (Lady in Waiting) - A multitude of Disney princesses and a castle greeted visitors to Brooke’s front garden.

Taylor King (Lady in Waiting) - Candyland came complete with massive sticks of rock, lollipops, sherbet dippers and love hearts.

Olivia Masterman (Lady in Waiting) - Smurf village with three wee smurfs who made children’s nights by dishing out sweets.

Jasmine Milne (Lady in Waiting) - Disney princesses are always popular and Jasmin is obviously a big fan of Aladdin.

Rachel Ritchie (Lady in Waiting) - Bikini Bottom’s Spongebob Squarepants and his aquatic pals accompanied by a soundtrack of classic Spongebob hits.

Sophie Robinson (Lady in Waiting) - Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and all the rest were at home in Sophie’s garden, along with her very own Emerald City and yellow brick road.

Apologies to Lady in Waiting Kara Gaffar, the Falkirk Herald arch correspondent could not locate you arch on the Friday night, despite a number of enquiries.
