The birth of Rory Michael McMenemy

THE DETAILS: Rory Michael McMenemy was born on October 21, 2011, at Forth Valley Royal Hospital at 2.36 p.m. weighing 8lb 8oz.

THE PARENTS: Laura Irelans is 32 and a drama teacher at Larbert High and dad Steven McMenemy is 31 and a navigation officer in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Rory is the couple’s first baby and the family live in Larbert.

THE PREGNANCY: Laura said she was really lucky with the pregnancy as it went without a hitch but she was uncomfortably hot in summer.

THE BIRTH: Rory was four days late. She said that Rory came along relatively quickly and that dad Steven was an excellent help.

THE BABY: Rory is a fantastic baby and is happy and content. He loves playing on his playmat and looking at himself in the mirror.

THE NAME: The couple had a shortlist of names. They liked Rory because it was short to go with quite a long surname, and now can’t imagine him being called anything else.

THE GRANDPARENTS: Rory is a first grandchild for Kenny and Elaine Pollard from Bo’ness, and also for Jacqui and Timmy McMenemy from Camelon.

THANKS: Thanks to the community midwives and the Bluebell team, especially Gillian and Amy.
