Traffic misery for street’s residents
Traffic problems are driving Tryst Road residents to complain
Residents say a busy road is an accident waiting to happen.
Tryst Road in Larbert is dealing with extra traffic thanks to a new housing development at one end of the street and an Asda superstore at the other.
An average 4500 vehicles use the residential road daily with HGVs a problem during the night.
Kim Grant has lived in the street for 20 years and thinks it is only a matter of time before someone is injured.
“This is a great street to live in and everyone is really happy here - the traffic is the only issue.
“We moved to the street from Edinburgh and liked the fact it was quiet with little traffic. But in the past seven years or so that has all changed. We are seeing far too many vehicles using the street as a short cut and it’s far too narrow to deal with it.
“Basically we have been encircled by developments and the road is taking the strain.”
She continued: “We have been in contact with Falkirk Council many times - I’ve got a whole box of correspondence - but they say there hasn’t been enough accidents to merit adding traffic calming measures. It’s ridiculous - they are basically saying someone needs to be hurt before action will be taken.”
Tryst Road is a walking route for school children and residents claim to have seen lots of near misses. Earlier this year a pupil walking on the pavement was hit by the wing mirror of a lorry attempting to use the narrow road.
Kim’s neighbour Paul Serafini agrees the road is dangerous.
He said: “We have tried to get the council to look at the situation but they don’t seem interested.
“There is a speeding problem, but it’s the volume of traffic using what is supposed to be a residential street that is the problem. During the day there is a constant stream of traffic and at night it’s HGVs. The amount of traffic using Tryst Road is increasing year on year and it’s just not designed to cope with it.”
Russell Steedman, network co-ordinator at Falkirk Council said: “Traffic speeds have been monitored and recorded over a number of years and the average speed on this road is around 23 mph, which is well below the 30 mph speed limit.
“However, should any further concerns arise we will of course consider and address these.”
