Susan takes the reins

A prominent Polmont businesswoman has become one of the youngest presidents of her local Rotary club.

Susan Ord, who owns the award-winning Land and Sea chip shop, took over the reins from outgoing president Ian McLean.

And the 36-year-old was thrown in at the deep end in her first formal engagement as president with an invite to the Queen’s garden party at Holyrood Palace as Her Majesty embarked on another tour of Scotland.

Ms Ord has been a committed Rotarian since joining the organisation in 2007, serving as a community convenor and lead mentor for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA).

She said: “I am looking forward to an exciting year, perhaps a more challenging year, and I hope that’s not just from a personal perspective.

“But whatever year it turns out to be, I am sure it will be a great year to make a difference in all our communities. We have to give thanks to the fantastic public support and to all the Rotarians, friends and family who really do put ‘Service above Self’.”

Mr McLean said: “We had a very successful year last year and I’m sure Susan’s hard work as president will ensure this continues. I wish her all the best for the coming year.”
