Pet of the Week

Catching up with Falkirk’s four-legged friends

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? Brightons.

WHO IS YOUR PET? Jake, a three-year-old springer spaniel cross.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD HIM? About a year-and-a-half. I got him at West Calder Dog’s Trust.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE HIM? I was looking to re-home a dog at the time. I was shown a picture of Jake and given all his details. When I met him we just got on well right away, he is a really friendly dog.

WHAT’S HE LIKE TO LIVE WITH? I have a cat, Honey, who has been with me eight years and she wasn’t too happy about Jake at first – she would chase him out of the room and he was quite scared of her. Now they get on well. Jake is a wonderful dog, full of energy. I like walking and so does he. He likes playing around, having a good run and meeting other dogs.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND RESCUE DOGS AS PETS? Yes, there are some great dogs up at the Dogs Trust and they are well looked after there. They tell you all the things that you should look out for about the dog’s behaviour.

DOES HE HAVE ANY SPECIAL TALENTS? He picks up new tricks really easily. When you give him a treat he’ll give you one paw and then when you give him another treat he’ll give you his other paw.
