No pain no gain as MoonWalk is finally completed

Colin Hume.

Colin Hume.

Well I did it, but I’m still paying the penalty for my efforts at the Edinburgh MoonWalk at the weekend.

Sunday afternoon was a write-off and I was forced to work from home on Monday and Tuesday as my aches and pains made every movement agony.

Compare that with chief reporter Jill Buchanan’s impressive effort as she not only finished an hour and a half ahead of me but also covered the Elton John concert that night.

I matched her step for step for the first nine miles then my lack of training took effect as first one hip then the other seized up.

I almost quit at 15 miles but hobbled on and crossed the finishing line eight hours after setting off.

When the pain subsides, I’ll look back on the event with a great deal of pride.

It was great to see the Falkirk Herald team all together at the Edinburgh Maggie’s Centre prior to the walk. My congratulations to you all for taking up the challenge.

Walk the Walk - the people behind the MoonWalk - are putting up the cash for a new Maggie’s at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert and this was our way of saying thanks.

We did that by raising hundreds of pounds – I just didn’t expect it to hurt so much.
