At last, we have hit the magical time of year with sunshine, barbecues, beer gardens and the smell of sun tan lotion.

Or not, if you live in Scotland.

It seems we had our spell of vitamin D for the year back in May when the country basked in the weather we all crave.

The parks were crowded, pubs were full and it was a nightmare to buy sausages from the supermarket as everyone headed outdoors to enjoy the brief spell of decent weather.

But with our summer comes plenty of rain, wind and low temperatures. It’s a shame that we’re all used to it.

No wonder so many of us head abroad during the summer. Destinations like Mallorca and Turkey are exactly what we want.

I think the country would come to a standstill for a few weeks if we suddenly got Spanish weather.

In typical Scottish fashion, however, we get on with our lives despite how miserable it can be outside.

Music festivals like RockNess and T in the Park still draw massive crowds regardless, which I think is testament to our nation’s love of having a good time.

Recent flooding at the Isle of Wight festival has spoiled the summer for some revellers with people forced to sleep in their cars.

And although Glastonbury is off this year, it is legendary for being a mud bath, which at least that proves it’s not just our country that’s afflicted by the dreich weather though.

Let’s hope the sun splits the sky for those heading to Balado this weekend as it’s about time for a relatively dry party.

Perosnally I’m considering travelling further afield on to the continent for a festival this summer.

Maybe I can even combine the music with a tan.
