Take a step back in time

A bit more up to date this week than of late is this class at
Langlees Primary School in 1967. We are indebted to Brian Morrison for the
picture, but he did have to get his head together with a couple of classmates to

THOUSANDS of voters have been caught in a mix-up over polling cards in the
Falkirk West by-election.
The cards give details of where and when to vote
in the Westminster seat and their non-appearance has lead to confusion.


HUNDREDS of jobs will be safeguarded at the Alexander bus-building plant this
week after the snapping up of a massive new order.
More than 330 vehicles
are to be built in Camelon in the multi-million-pound deal.


SEVERAL objections have already been lodged with Falkirk Council against the
proposed new police station for Falkirk.
Residents and a business have
voiced concern over the dust caused during the demolition and construction of
the police station in West Bridge Street and the neighbouring garage.

CENTRAL Scotland Police Ladies Charity Group raised more than £3000 at their
third annual charity dinner at the Inchyra Grange Hotel in Polmont.
Chief
Constable William Wilson handed over £1000 each to Crossroads Care groups of
Falkirk, Clackmannan and Stirling.


IT was celebration time for BP Chemicals in Grangemouth this week.
To
mark a successful year a special evening was held at Callendar House, its
spotlight shone on the achievements made by both the staff and firm.


MORE that 30,000 people have given the thumbs up to British Waterways
Millennium Link proposed to re-open the Forth & Clyde Canal and the Union
Canal.
The general public and local councillors have all lent their support.

The new bid is being submitted by British Waterways in partnership with
local communities, local authorities and user groups.
The bid was
considerably lowered to make it happen.

MARY Stewart or Dougan, hawker, pleaded guilty to having been found drunk and
incapable in Kerse Lane while in charge of a child.
In answering the
magistrate the accused said she had come to the town with her husband who was in
search of work.
They could not get lodgings.
She took a little liquor
and missed her husband.


GEORGE McGee, labourer, East Bridge Street, was charged with having, on the
18th December, resisted an attempt to trip two police officers while in custody
on a charge of drunkenness.
A plea of guilty was tendered and a fine of 15s
was imposed.
